Richard started the violin at the age of 6 inspired by the musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. Piano and trombone followed later and aged 11 he joined the Royal College of Music JD where he won the composition prize and led the RCM orchestra.


He also led the Bedfordshire County Youth Orchestra and Opera Group before completing a Science degree at City University. Since then he has worked with recording studios, film projects and taught violin and piano. Richard spent many years as the Director of Music at Cumnor House School.

 

As a conductor he has worked with groups such as BYMT and SLYO. After gaining a PG Cert. (string teaching) at Chichester University he now works at LPGS and as a freelance tutor, conductor and composer.

In 2017 Richard began working on a project that would allow new composers to show and sell string music for young players - Saturn Strings was launched in 2018.
